Bars and nightclubs can reopen on January 16… however as restaurants

After being closed for nine months, bars, karaoke venues, and nightclubs will be ready to open temporarily as “restaurants” beginning on January 16. And Building blocks won’t be allowed to serve booze (legally).
As a New Year’s reward, the Thai authorities gave restaurants and approved venues across the nation a free pass to serve booze the night time of December 31 until 1am on January 1. But that was only for the night.
With an uptick in Covid-19 cases after the vacation, restrictions are tightening. Starting January 9, all but eight provinces shall be categorized as “orange” zones with a ban on alcohol sales at restaurants. Only eating places in “blue” zones with pilot tourism programmes, and which have been permitted, are allowed to serve alcoholic drinks, and just until 9pm each night time..
